Luna Vachon Passes Away

Rest In Peace, Luna Vachon.

Rest In Peace, Luna Vachon.

World Wrestling Entertainment is reporting that one of the pioneers of the WWE’s women division, Luna Vachon, has passed away at the age of 48.

I first saw Luna when she was hired by WWF as the manager of “The Beast of the East” Bam Bam Bigelow in 1992.  Bam Bam and Luna would feud with Doink The Clown and his little clown, Dink.

In 1993, Luna would feud with “Sensational” Sherri starting at WrestleMania IX.  They two women would have a series of matches at house shows.  On TV, the feud turned into Luna and Bam Bam Bigelow against Sherri and “The Native American” Tatanka.

In 1994, the WWF recreated the women’s division for a second time and Alundra Blayze would become the first champion.  Luna set her eyes on the championship and failed at winning the WWF Women’s Championship after several matches with Blayze.  Luna then resumed her role as a manager and brought in the Japanese athlete, Bull Nakano, to try to get the women’s championship.  In a match in Japan during a November 1994 tour, Nakano would win the championship and Luna would leave the WWF shortly after.

I wouldn’t see Luna on my television set for a few years because she went to Extreme Championship Wrestling to serve as Tommy Dreamer’s valet during his violent feud with Raven.  After that storyline ended, she teamed up with the Vampire Warrior, who in real life was her husband.

Luna returned to the WWF in 1997 as the new manager of Goldust.  They would feud with “Marvelous” Marc Mero and his wife, Sable.  Luna and Sable would have the first-ever Evening Gown Matches at Unforgiven 1998.  In the summer of 1998, Luna would have a change in heart and joined the group known as The Oddities which had a new manager – Sable.

During the winter of 1998/99, Luna returned to her evil ways as “The Spider Lady” and attacked the WWF Women’s Champion, Sable.  At Royal Rumble 1999, the two would feud in a Strap Match and Luna would lose thanks to a “fan” named Tori.

Luna would leave the WWF at that point and would return once again after SummerSlam 99 to attack the Women’s Champion, Ivory.  At Unforgiven 1999, Luna and Ivory would compete in a Hardcore Rules Match which Luna lost.  During Jeff Jarrett’s feud against womenkind, Luna would accept a challenge from the Intercontinental Champion and would defeat him via disqualification due to interference from Ivory.

Luna was now teaming up with her husband, Gangrel.  She served as his manager and tag team partner when he wrestled in Mixed Tag Team Matches.  At Survivor Series 1999, Luna teamed up with Ivory, Jacqueline and Terri Runnels.  They lost to The Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, Debra McMichael and Tori.

The last pay-per-view she would appear on, would be Royal Rumble 2000.  She would participate in a Women’s Swimsuit Contest but declined to take her jacket off in protest.

After a few weeks, she would be released by WWF due to another backstage problem.  Following the release, Luna would compete on her own in the indys and would manager he husband as well.

Luna became a born-again Christian in 2004 and would go on to say that her favorite memory of wrestling was visiting children via the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

In 2010, Luna unfortunately suffered a house fire where she lost all of her wrestling memorabilia.

On behalf of WU Online, I would like to pass my condolences, prayers and respect to the Vachon family and to the friends and fans of Luna.

Luna Vachon was a born-again Christian.

God bless you, Luna Vachon.

After Kaval was announced as the winner, second place runner-up – Michael McGillicutty (“Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig’s son, Joe) went on a tirade and ended it by saying this was “…the genesis of Michael McGillicutty!”  Kaval was then allowed to give his thoughts on winning the competition and seconds into the speech, the eliminated competitors of season 2: Lucky Cannon, Husky Harris, Percy Watson, Eli Cottonwood, Titus O’Neil and third place runner-up – “The Varsity Villain” Alex Riley attacked “The World Warrior.”
